Yesterday we took advantage of the beautiful weather and hiked the GR 132 trail from Arure to La Playa (Gran Rey). We took the bus from La Playa in the early afternoon up to the little village of Arure where we hopped onto the trail. La Gomera has a series of trails running up, down, and across the island that can be started at various points along the way. We started at about 1000 m up, (3330 ft) and walked down through the cacti, shrubs, and goats, along a rocky path. It took us about 4 hours to hike to the bottom and we were glad we chose that direction as we passed the people huffing and puffing on their way up. We had a picnic lunch on an outcropping of rocks looking over a spectacular valley and Adam very nearly caught a big lizard but he lost it under some rocks. By the end our knees were sore and our legs felt a bit like jello but we made it back to the boat to enjoy another rolling night in the anchorage. Adam is looking at catamarans online as we speak.
